The Western States Police Canine Association (WSPCA), a nonprofit organization, is governed by a board of directors elected by the membership to serve two-year terms. Our mission is to promote professionalism and safety for all working police K9 teams.
Meeting Our Goals
Our group strives to achieve our mission by sanctioning police K9 competitions that stress the importance of control, as well as safety tactics while encountering scenarios that mimic encounters on the street. In addition, training seminars feature some of the top K9 trainers in the world.
The WSPCA provides a forum for K9 handlers and trainers of varied backgrounds, experience, and philosophies to exchange ideas.
WSPCA-sanctioned competitions are sponsored by agencies in the states of California, Nevada, and Idaho. Competitions are open to all K9 teams from law enforcement agencies. Phases include Narcotics Detection (optional), Evidence Searching (optional), Obedience, Agility, Search, and Protection scenarios. Awards are given at each competition. K9 teams are also awarded points toward year-end rankings. At the end of competition season, the WSPCA names the top ten K9 teams based on point accumulation at the individual competitions. Points only count for those K9 teams that are members at time of competition.
